After Shancelot improved his record to 2-for-2, trainer Jorge Navarro declared the colt the best he’s ever trained. The son of Shanghai Bobby backed it up Sunday when sprinting to a victory in the Grade 2, $200,000 Amsterdam Stakes in record time.

From the outside post in a field of 12, he glided under jockey Emisael Jaramillo to fractions of 21.79, 43.94 and 1:07.63 before finishing 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:14.01, well clear of his rivals at Saratoga.

The six-furlong split was even faster than Imperial Hint finished the Alfred G. Vanderbilt (G1) in 1:07.92 to set the track’s 3/4-mile track record Saturday.
