After finishing second just half-length short of the winner in the G1 Las Vegas Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile $1M, Sharp Azteca (Freud – So Sharp) is back in Florida where the speedy horse will resume training for the G1 Cigar Mile Handicap $750,000 on December 2nd at Aqueduct. “That’s the plan. If everything goes as we expect, Sharp Azteca will run in the Cigar Mile.”
Sharp Azteca set a new track record (1:40.19) at Monmouth Park in the 1 1/6 miles of the G3 Monmouth Cup Stakes on July 30th, then wires the field in the G2 Kelso Handicap at Belmont Park in one mile, all this before to fall short in the Dirt Mile. “We are very pleased with his last race. Horse always shows up, he brings his A Game on every race. If you look at his record, Sharp Azteca hasn’t finish worse than 3rd in the last 8 races.”
The four times Graded Stakes winner will remain training at Gulfstream Park West for the next couple of weeks.
